I completed two weeks of work experience at St Ives branch when I was 14 and loved it! Then I studied Travel and Tourism at sixth form for a year but decided I would rather be learning in the workplace, so in 2002 I applied for a trainee position at St Ives and have been here ever since! I have since had two children and now work part time.
I love that no two days are the same in the job, and that every enquiry is different. I love being part of something that is special to people - whether it's a week in the sun not too far away, or a complicated tailor made itinerary - I enjoy researching options and finding the right holiday for each individual.
I have travelled to lots of amazing places in America (New York, Las Vegas, Florida and the Hawaiian Islands), and the Caribbean (Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia, Caribbean coast of Mexico). I have also visited Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang).
Closer to home, I have been to the Gambia, Egypt, lots of European destinations - Spain (the mainland and both the Balearics and Canary islands) and Barcelona, Greece (Crete and Rhodes), the Algarve in Portugal, Italy – the Neapolitan Riviera, the Ligurian coast (Portofino area). I have also
visited places as diverse as Germany (Koblenz Rhine/Moselle area) and the glitz and glamour of Monte Carlo.
I have also tried cruising onboard a P&O Cruise stopping in Spain, France and Guernsey.
I got married in Cyprus – on Nissi Beach – so have good first hand knowledge of organising weddings abroard.
My husband and I will be off on a weekend city break at the end of March, but we are yet to decide on the destination for this – it will either be Paris, (as I'm desperate to see all the sights and travel on the Eurostar) or Budapest (as it looks beautiful, and is growing in popularity as it's good value).
Australia (especially Sydney) for the experience, Canada for the amazing scenery and the Maldives for the beautiful islands and clear waters are all top of my list.
I have two - New York, it is so overwhelming seeing all the iconic buildings and recognising places that you see on tv and films. We went up to the top of the Empire State Building and the view was amazing.
Mexico is also special as we went there for our honeymoon. We were totally spoilt at our hotel, the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world and the food is gorgeous. We swam with dolphins while we were there too which was a magical experience.
Learning to surf and snorkel in Hawaii. I had a surfing lesson on Waikiki beach – I had never tried it before but by the end managed to stand for a short time. We also went snorkelling on a boat trip from Maui; I struggled at first but got the hang of the snorkel! I saw so many beautiful fish and sea turtles. I was nervous about trying these things for the first time, so felt a sense of achievement at doing and enjoying both activities.
For families with young children – if you are at the beach and have little ones that don't like sand on their feet, take baby powder with you. When leaving, sprinkle baby powder on their feet and the sand will just brush off really easily!
I understand that holidays are as individual as the people travelling on them. It's so important that the destination or hotel suits the needs and wants of each customer.
