Lucy Clarke Branch Manager

Tell me about your travel background…

I started in travel by working for KLM UK at Stansted Airport as a check in agent, I then worked for Thomas Cook (previously Going Places) for 10 years - first as assistant manager and then branch manager. Then I had a two year break from travel and worked at North Hertfordshire College, going out into the workplace and assessing apprentices, before joining Premier Travel in Saffron Walden in August 2015.

Why do you love working in travel?

I love bringing people’s dreams to life – booking clients holidays is something that I find extremely enjoyable, holidays are something people save up for, often for a long time, so they want it to be right. I love talking to people and seeing the process come together from start to finish.

Where have you travelled to…

Mexico a couple of times, staying in the Riviera Maya; Jamaica a couple of times, Cuba – Havana and Varadero; Thailand – Bangkok and Phuket, Phi Phi island; The Gambia; Malaysia – KL & Borneo; The Algarve; Cyprus; Turkey; Qatar (Doha); Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribbean taking in Italy, Corsica etc. Closer to home, I really like Mallorca and Cala D’or - I’ve also have enjoyed short breaks to Dublin, Rome.

Where are you off to next?

Nothing is booked yet but I’d love to go and do a safari in Africa – I’m a huge animal lover so I want to go and see the Big Five in their natural environment.

Travel wish list.

I’ve never travelled to America yet so I’d really like to go and see the Deep South – my husband has a big interest in music so we’d like to go to Memphis and New Orleans. I really love relaxing in the Caribbean with a nice white sand beach and clear waters, lovely food and drinks – I love to try different restaurants. Antigua and St Lucia sound right up my street!

Favourite holiday destination and why?

Thailand is my favourite destination, mainly because of the culture. The locals are so lovely, some of the nicest people I’ve ever met and are happy and smiling all the time. Spending time with the elephants was out of this world, and the food is amazing too.

Favourite travel memory and why?

Standing with the Orang-utans at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria in Malaysia, the support that the locals give the animals is amazing and the Orang-utans are so interested in you, they came right up to touch us. It was really heart-warming.
