Tell us about your travel background

I started my travel career with Premier Travel at the Cambridge branch in 1989, and after a couple of years was promoted to Assistant Manager in our Huntingdon branch. I worked at Huntingdon for several years before deciding to take some time out to go travelling around New Zealand; covering all the way from the North of North Island to the South of South! I returned to Premier Travel - initially at our St Ives branch - before setting off again, this time around America for two months; exploring the Western USA National Parks Yosemite, Yellowstone, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon; and also visiting San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, before ending my trip by catching the Amtrak train up to Seattle. When I returned once more to Premier Travel, I moved across to manage the Premier Prestige VIP Travel department at our Cambridge branch, where I stayed for around 13 years. After my little girl arrived, I re-joined the Huntingdon team where I'm now based.

Why do you love working in the travel?

I love being able to enthuse about destinations, use my knowledge either from personal experience or from years of knowledge gained working in the business, to help plan trips that will suit what an individual would like to do. I also love dealing with tailor made enquiries, getting to know my customers really well, understanding what their likes and dislikes are and building up a very solid repeat customer base.

Where have you travelled to?

I have travelled extensively over the years, and have in fact visited every continent, except South America! I know New Zealand and Western USA very well, but have also travelled to Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam & Cambodia, South Africa, Kenya, The Seychelles, Mexico City, Hong Kong, Canada (both East and West) and of course European summer holiday destinations too. More recently I have visited various places in the UK, which has been just as lovely in a different way."

Where are you off to next & why?

I am off to Croatia, then a work trip to Sardinia in September and Lapland in November.

Travel wish list

I would love to visit Cape Cod and New England, re-visit Western USA with my family, and when my daughter is old enough I would love to go back to Canada and stay in wilderness lodges and see brown bears.  I have a huge wish to return to Australia, but this time visit Western Australia, and maybe hiring a campervan.

Favourite holiday destination & why?

Vietnam & Cambodia, it was such an amazing trip. I knew previously about the war history, but had no clue to the hundreds of years of history prior to this in both countries. The people are amazing, the scenery breath taking, and something that sticks in my mind is a junk cruise in Halong Bay, which was so beautiful.

Favourite travel memory & why?

This is really hard, as I have so many in different countries! In New Zealand, it has to be the Heli-Hike over Franz Josef glacier, this was amazing! Landing at the top of the glacier in a helicopter and then hiking on the glacier itself is something I shall never forget (not to mention dropping my camera and never seeing it again!) In Vietnam, it's the junk cruise in Halong Bay - absolutely breath taking scenery, so calm and quiet too. In Canada - the view from my room over Lake Louise. In South Africa - Cape Town Waterfront and the view up to Table Mountain and on safari, being in an open top jeep right next to a male lion, who then roared!

Top travel tip

If you are travelling with other people, split your luggage between cases, you never know whether it might come in handy!

Book with me because

I would never sell something for the sake of selling - the trip has to be right for that person. I believe I have developed a skill in understanding what a customer is looking for, and tailoring the trip to suit that particular person. I love being able to help plan a good trip, and get great pleasure from the customer coming back and saying they have had a great time.

Never travel without

Your Camera! I would be lost without mine, you have so many fantastic photo opportunities and I would be really sad to not have pictures to remind me of the amazing places I have visited
