I spent a year training at a travel agency in Cambridge, before moving to Premier Travel in Ely as a travel consultant in 1987. Once there, I was promoted to assistant manager, then to a branch manager in 1997. In 2007 I became branch manager of Swaffham where I worked until moving to Bury St Edmunds in 2015, again as branch manager.
Grand Cayman Island – I swam in Stingray city! You go out on a catamaran to the middle of the ocean, where the sandbank reefs are very shallow. You then feed the Stringrays and then jump out of the boat to swim with them in the crystal waters – it’s an amazing experience. The gorgeous beaches and friendly locals topped it all off for me. Aruba – is just stunningly beautiful and had everything you dream the Caribbean to be – white sand and turquoise blue sea, it’s literally picture perfect.
Barcelona and Paris. I absolutely love these two places and I could quite happily go back again and again. Both of them are so different, yet offer so much enjoyment and fascination. You get to sample the history, culture and get a real feel for both places. The Segrada Familia in Barcelona was amazing; you can spend hours there admiring all the architecture. I want to go back and see it again now that it’s being finished inside! Paris you can take at your own pace, it has something fascinating about it and there’s so much to offer with both scenery and leisure options. The dining opportunities are fantastic and the atmosphere is brilliant.
For me, having quite a large family, a city break is a fantastic opportunity to be able to spend quality time with my husband, to eat out every day and night and to spoil ourselves! We like to take time out and remember what life was like before the children came along, and spend time just being a couple again.
Possibly another visit back to Disneyland Paris with my family – Disneyland Paris changes all the time, it’s constantly updating with new rides and things to see. Now my children are a bit older they can appreciate it a bit more, but children of any age will love it! I would also like to do a mini cruise to France for just my husband and I, we just want to chill out and relax – cruising is like being on a 5* hotel which you don’t have to leave!
Bermuda – We recently did a Bermuda promotional day in store and it totally sold it to me! There are no cars, pink beaches, it’s a small island so easy to get around, relaxed atmosphere…. everything I could want! Vietnam & Cambodia – we sell so much of these destinations and have booked them both a lot this year – I’ve heard wonderful stories from my clients and have never heard a bad review. Indochina is safe, affordable when you’re there, beautiful and seems amazing.
Don’t spend hours upon hours trawling the net planning your trip and looking into every detail before you go. Half the fun of travelling is finding the unexpected, and not knowing that the next bus leaves in 5 minutes! Don’t read too much into reviews, everyone is different and unique; find out and discover for yourself. Live your holiday through your eyes and not someone else’s. After all, a holiday is what you make it.
